My hubby treated me to dinner last night after I e-mailed him a humorous hot dog pic I spied while browsing Foodbuzz. The pic was part of a post titled “My Omnivore’s 100” over at What’s to Eat Baltimore? Fair warning, the site is not veg! But, I can appreciate awesome creativity and a sense of humor when I see it.
Hubby responded to my e-mail, saying that he was kind of craving hot dogs and suggested we have ‘em for din-din. He could have regular dogs, but I wanted veggie dogs, I told him. Surprisingly, hubby said he’d try the veggie dogs too! AND, he’d cook dinner! Awesome.
He picked up a package of Lightlife’s Smart Dogs, some whole wheat buns and a bag of Ore-Ida’s Extra Crispy Golden Crinkle Fries, which are vegan fries according to the company’s Web site.
It felt so good to walk in the door from work yesterday and see hubby at the stove, cooking.
It was a nice break for me. I topped my dogs with Hormel’s vegetarian chili and organic mustard from Woodstock Farms. Hubby topped his with mustard relish. While hubby said the Smart Dogs were good, he said they were missing that tension bite you get as your teeth break through the casing of regular hot dogs.
Oh! I should mention that the pic you see here is courtesy of my hubby’s camera… I left the memory card for my cam at work, but hubby came to the rescue so I could show you how yummy the veggie dogs looked!

Sweet! I agree, it is SO nice to have a break from the kitchen sometimes! You mans meal looks great! Have you ever tried Yves veggie dogs?
Ugh, my husband can’t cook at all. Maybe once he is back I’ll make him start trying, haha.
Aww what a sweet hubby
Dear Jenny!
Greetings!
I don’t want to sound like interfering, but a hsband who is looking for “harmony” at home should cook now and then! LOL
That’s the only I can control the Missus’ wild changes of mood!
Cheers,
Robert-Gilles
