Welcome to I Married an Omnivore!
My name is Jenny… and I’m the crazy voice behind this website! I’ve followed a vegetarian diet since 2000. But in the summer of 2005, I met the love of my life–and he’s a meat eater! We married on Oct. 31, 2008.
I do the cooking in our mixed-diet household and, thankfully, hubby isn’t appalled by most vegetarian and vegan food… but that doesn’t mean it’s always smooth sailing. There’s been much debate about whether or not veg*ns and meat-eaters can co-exist in a relationship…. I’m here to prove that we can!
This site has had many facelifts since 2007, but I think it’s finally finding its way. Going forward, this site will focus on easy vegetarian recipes and vegan meal ideas that can help make a mixed-diet relationship (which could be your husband, wife, parents, relatives, friends, etc.) more harmonious. I will always endorse an animal-friendly diet but the reality is that the world is still very much a meat-based planet. As vegetarians, we shouldn’t live in a silo and only surround ourselves with others like us. We need to strengthen our relationships with meat-eaters and be ambassadors for a plant-based diet. I do believe that’s the only way forward for us, the animals and the planet.
I Married an Omnivore is my contribution. I want to teach meat-eaters how to cook and enjoy tofu. I would like “tempeh” to be in an omnivore’s vocabulary… and diet. I want to reach out to those new or transitioning to vegetarianism with encouragement and arm them with recipes for delicious meals that will make them wonder why they didn’t make the switch sooner!
If you have any comments or suggestions regarding this site, please feel free to drop me a note at veggiecookster AT gmail DOT com. I’ll get back with you as soon as I can!

Congrats! This oughta make for a fun and interesting read!
This is great! I find myself in a similar situation (though we’re not married!), love to cook, and am slowly learning how to cook meat.
Hey Jenny…long time no talk!
I was doing some site maintenance today and found a reference to an old project of yours (you know the one), and thought it was high time to see what you’re up to. A few clicks from google later and here I am
CONGRATS on the wedding, the move-in, and now the blog! I’ll make a point to check in now and then…
Warm Regards,
Dave
Hi, Mrs. Jenny. My name is Misa and I am 12. I enjoy reading your blog, my Mom and I are vegetarian, your recipes are creative and yummy
Congratulations on the wedding, and I hope you and your hubby are happy as can be.You two look good together. Also, your dress is pretty
Hi Miss Jenny!
I am in the same boat, only reverse, I married a vegetarian! I wrote a cookbook for families like ours, it comes out in November and I’d love to send you an advance copy. Thanks for your mixed diet ideas, I love the photos!
I think your blog is hi-larious and I plan on following you. Your pictures are great and I find at 55 my hubby and I are leaning towards more fruits and vegetables with tofu as a protein starter. I have been cooking Thai and I love everything I’ve made so far. I will also cook some of your recipes and see if my guy will go for it. Thank you for being a real person and I am thrilled you have a loved one in your picture to cook for!
I love what you’re doing with your site. I’m a vegan married to an omnivore (more like a carnivore) as well, so I totally relate!
OMG! Not only am I in the same boat, I’m veg and my husband is an omni, BUT we also got married 10/31/08! Luckily my husband lets me have a meat free home most of the time. And when he does have meat he ussually grills it so I don’t have to do anything.
Hi,
Wow..Its nice to know there are others in this situation out there..I am a vegetarian and my BF is a MEAT LOVER! Its so hard trying to find that balance in our kitchen between what i will eat and what he will eat. I did the same thing you did..I started a blog..hope mine can become as helpful and popular as yours.
Hi Emily… thanks for visiting! I’ve added a link to your site in my blogroll. I look forward to reading more of your kitchen adventures.
This website is amazing. My boyfriend is a meat eater and is always complaining about what I cannot eat. This will make cooking for him ten times easier! Thank you!
